Description
A surprisingly easy and high-protein recipe for crispy garlic breadsticks made with cottage cheese, an egg, and mozzarella cheese.
Ingredients
1 cup (225g) full-fat cottage cheese
1 large egg
1 cup (113g) shredded mozzarella cheese, plus more for topping
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning (optional)
Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2: In a medium bowl, combine the cottage cheese, egg, 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, and optional Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes. Mix until well combined.
Step 3: Spread the mixture evenly onto the prepared baking sheet, forming a rectangle about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
Step 4: Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
Step 5: Remove from oven, sprinkle with a little extra mozzarella if desired, and return to the oven for another 2-3 minutes, or until the additional cheese is melted and golden.
Step 6: Let cool for a few minutes before slicing into breadstick shapes. Garnish with fresh parsley if using, and serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
For extra crispiness, ensure your cottage cheese mixture is spread thinly. If your cottage cheese is very watery, you can lightly drain it first. Serve with marinara sauce, ranch, or a creamy pesto dip.
