Ingredients
2 cans (21 oz each) apple pie filling
1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Step 2: Spread both cans of apple pie filling into the bottom of the prepared baking dish in an even layer.
Step 3: Sprinkle the ground cinnamon over the apple filling if you desire extra spice.
Step 4: Pour the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the top of the apples. Do not stir.
Step 5: Place the thin slices of butter over the entire surface of the cake mix, covering as much as possible.
Step 6: Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the fruit filling is bubbling around the edges.
Step 7: Allow the cake to cool for at least 10-15 minutes before serving to let the filling set.
Notes
For a crunchier topping, add 1/2 cup of chopped pecans on top of the cake mix before adding butter.
