Description
A decadent and easy-to-make warm dip featuring creamy crab filling, baked to golden perfection and served with crunchy homemade wonton chips.
Ingredients
8 oz Cream Cheese, softened
½ cup sour cream
1 teaspoon soy sauce
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 clove minced garlic
3 oz canned crab meat, well-drained and flaked
1 cup Mozzarella cheese (½ cup for dip, ½ cup for topping)
4 diced green onions (2 for dip, 2 for garnish)
12 oz wonton wraps
1 quart vegetable oil (for frying chips, or less if baking)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking dish or a small oven-safe skillet.
Step 2: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, soy sauce, brown sugar, and minced garlic. Mix until smooth and well combined.
Step 3: Gently fold in the drained crab meat, ½ cup of mozzarella cheese, and 2 diced green onions into the cream cheese mixture.
Step 4: Spread the dip mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of mozzarella cheese over the top.
Step 5: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly and the cheese on top is melted and lightly golden.
Step 6: While the dip bakes, prepare the wonton chips. Cut each wonton wrapper into triangles or squares. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot or deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
Step 7: Carefully fry the wonton chips in batches for 30-60 seconds per side, until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Immediately sprinkle with a pinch of salt. (Alternatively, you can bake wonton chips at 375°F for 5-7 minutes until golden and crispy).
Step 8: Once baked, remove the dip from the oven. Garnish with the remaining 2 diced green onions. Serve hot with the crispy wonton chips.
Notes
For an extra kick, add a dash of sriracha or a pinch of red pepper flakes to the dip mixture. Ensure your cream cheese is truly softened for a smooth dip. If baking wonton chips, brush lightly with oil before baking for best crispness.
