Description
Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, these air fryer apple fritters are a delightful treat, offering all the flavor of traditional fritters without the deep-frying mess.
Ingredients
1½ cups plain flour (180g)
¼ cup white sugar (50g)
2 teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1½ teaspoons cinnamon powder
â…“ cup full-fat milk (80ml)
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla essence
2 teaspoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons butter, melted (unsalted)
2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped (yields about 2¾ cups or 335g)
1 cup icing sugar (120g) (for the glaze)
3 tablespoons full-fat milk (for the glaze)
1 teaspoon vanilla essence (for the glaze)
1 tablespoon butter, melted (unsalted) (for the glaze)
Instructions
Step 1: In a large bowl, whisk together the plain flour, white sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon powder until well combined.
Step 2: In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the â…“ cup full-fat milk, eggs, 2 teaspoons vanilla essence, lemon juice, and 2 tablespoons melted butter.
Step 3: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are fine.
Step 4: Gently fold in the chopped apples until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
Step 5: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking oil.
Step 6: Drop spoonfuls (about 1.5-2 tablespoons) of batter into the preheated air fryer basket, leaving space between each fritter. Do not overcrowd. Lightly spray the tops of the fritters with oil.
Step 7: Air fry for 7-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and cooked through. Cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer model and fritter size. The internal temperature should reach 200-205°F (93-96°C). Remove and set aside.
Step 8: While the fritters are cooking, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the icing sugar, 3 tablespoons full-fat milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla essence, and 1 tablespoon melted butter until smooth.
Step 9: Once all fritters are cooked and slightly cooled, dip each warm fritter into the glaze, or drizzle the glaze generously over them. Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving.
Step 10: Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade air fryer apple fritters!
Notes
For best results, use firm, slightly tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp. Ensure your air fryer is preheated and avoid overcrowding the basket to achieve maximum crispiness. Leftover fritters can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days and reheated in the air fryer.
