Description
A vibrant and flavorful cranberry sauce infused with fresh orange and warm cinnamon, perfect for your holiday table.
Ingredients
1/2 cup water
12 oz fresh cranberries (rinsed and picked over)
1 cinnamon stick
1/2 cup orange juice
small pinch salt
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 strip orange peel (use a vegetable peeler to avoid pith)
Instructions
Step 1: In a medium saucepan, combine the water, orange juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon stick, orange peel, and salt.
Step 2: Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has fully dissolved.
Step 3: Add the rinsed fresh cranberries to the simmering liquid. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10-15 minutes, or until most of the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
Step 4: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Carefully remove and discard the cinnamon stick and orange peel.
Step 5: Allow the cranberry sauce to cool completely at room temperature before transferring it to an airtight container. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken further.
Notes
For an extra festive touch, you can add a tablespoon of Grand Marnier or Cointreau after the sauce has cooled slightly. This sauce can be made up to 5 days in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
