Description

A comforting recipe for cinnamon sugar pretzels that are soft, chewy, and coated in a perfect blend of cinnamon and sugar.

Ingredients

Scale

1.5 cups warm water (110°F)
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
2.25 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
4.5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for dough)
10 cups water (for baking soda bath)
2/3 cup baking soda
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted (for coating)
1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

Step 1: Combine warm water and 1 tablespoon of sugar in a bowl. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
Step 2: Add the flour, salt, and 2 tablespoons of melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
Step 3: Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
Step 4: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Step 5: Bring 10 cups of water and the baking soda to a rolling boil in a large pot.
Step 6: Divide the risen dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 22-inch rope and twist into a pretzel shape.
Step 7: Drop each pretzel into the boiling baking soda water for 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on the baking sheets.
Step 8: Bake for 8-12 minutes until golden brown.
Step 9: In a small bowl, mix the 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Brush the warm pretzels with melted butter and coat thoroughly in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Notes

Ensure the baking soda water is at a full boil for the best texture and color.
