Description
A timeless and easy recipe for creamy, savory ham salad, perfect for sandwiches, wraps, or crackers, and a great way to use leftover ham.
Ingredients
2 cups finely chopped cooked ham
½ cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
2 tablespoons finely chopped celery
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
Salt to taste
Black pepper to taste
Optional: 1 chopped hard-boiled egg
Instructions
Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped cooked ham, mayonnaise, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, finely chopped celery, and finely chopped onion.
Step 2: Stir all the ingredients together thoroughly until everything is evenly coated and well combined.
Step 3: Taste the ham salad and adjust the seasoning with salt and black pepper as needed. If you desire extra richness, now is the time to fold in the optional chopped hard-boiled egg.
Step 4: For optimal flavor development, cover the bowl and chill the ham salad in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
Step 5: Serve your chilled ham salad as desired: piled high on bread for sandwiches, scooped into lettuce cups for a lighter option, or with crackers.
Notes
For a tangier flavor, replace sweet pickle relish with dill pickles. A pinch of cayenne pepper can add a subtle kick. Best served chilled for at least 30 minutes.
