Description

A rich, creamy custard baked in a perfectly flaky pie crust, offering a timeless comfort dessert experience.

Ingredients

Scale

1 pre-baked 9-inch pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
4 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups whole milk
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Ensure your 9-inch pie crust is already blind-baked and cooled. If using a homemade crust, prepare it according to your preferred method and blind bake until lightly golden. If using store-bought, follow package instructions for pre-baking.
Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined and slightly frothy. Do not overbeat, as this can incorporate too much air.
Step 3: Gradually whisk in the whole milk until the mixture is smooth. For an extra silky custard, strain the entire mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean bowl or directly into the pie crust.
Step 4: Carefully pour the custard mixture into the pre-baked pie crust. Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any potential spills and make it easier to transfer.
Step 5: Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the edges are set and lightly golden, but the center still has a slight wobble when gently shaken. The pie will continue to set as it cools.
Step 6: While the pie is still hot from the oven, gently brush the top surface with the 2 tablespoons of melted butter. This creates a beautiful shine and adds a touch of richness.
Step 7: Let the pie cool completely on a wire rack at room temperature for at least 2-3 hours. For best results and to ensure it's fully set, transfer it to the refrigerator and chill for another 2-3 hours (or overnight) before slicing and serving. Enjoy!

Notes

For an extra touch, dust with a sprinkle of nutmeg or cinnamon before baking, or serve with a dollop of whipped cream. Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for the smoothest custard. This pie is best enjoyed chilled.
