An incredibly easy two-ingredient recipe to make super soft, squishy, and wonderfully velvety playdough perfect for sensory exploration and creative fun.
Ingredients
1 cup cornstarch
½ cup hair conditioner (creamy, not gel)
Optional: food coloring
Optional: glitter
Optional: essential oils
Optional: mica powder for shimmer
Instructions
Step 1: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the 1 cup of cornstarch and ½ cup of creamy hair conditioner.
Step 2: Using a spoon, stir the mixture until it begins to clump together. The texture will be crumbly at first.
Step 3: Once it forms a rough clump, turn it out onto a clean surface and begin to knead it with your hands. Continue kneading for several minutes until the mixture becomes smooth, soft, and dough-like with a velvety texture.
Step 4: If adding optional color or shimmer, knead in a few drops of food coloring, a sprinkle of glitter, or mica powder until evenly distributed. If the dough feels too dry, add a tiny bit more conditioner; if too sticky, add a sprinkle of cornstarch.
Notes
Store your velvet playdough in an airtight container or zip-top bag at room temperature. If it starts to dry out, knead in a small amount of extra conditioner to refresh it. This playdough is not intended for consumption.
