Description

Crispy, golden-brown broccoli and cheese balls, perfectly cooked in the air fryer for a healthier and utterly irresistible snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups fresh broccoli, finely chopped
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plus extra for coating)
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 large egg
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Cooking spray (for air frying)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Broccoli. Start by steaming your finely chopped fresh broccoli until it's tender-crisp, which usually takes about 3-5 minutes. Once steamed, drain any excess water thoroughly and let it cool slightly. Finely chop the broccoli even further to ensure it integrates well into the mixture.
Step 2: Combine and Form. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooled, finely chopped broccoli with shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, the egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix everything thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated and the mixture holds together. Then, take small portions (about 1 inch in diameter) and roll them into compact balls. For an extra crispy coating, roll each ball in additional breadcrumbs.
Step 3: Air Fry to Golden Perfection. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly mist the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the broccoli cheese balls in a single layer in the basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, or until they are beautifully golden brown and crispy. Remember to flip them halfway through for even cooking.
Step 4: Serve and Savor. Once cooked, carefully remove the broccoli cheese balls from the air fryer. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy these warm, crispy, and cheesy bites with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For best results, ensure your broccoli is thoroughly drained after steaming to prevent soggy cheese balls. These are fantastic with ranch, marinara, or a spicy aioli!
