Description

A decadently gooey and rich chocolate cake layered with silky caramel sauce, made extra moist with sour cream and butter.

Ingredients

Scale

1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
2 large eggs
1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 cup sour cream
1 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together the chocolate cake mix, eggs, milk, melted butter, baking powder, and sour cream until mostly smooth.
Step 3: Spread two-thirds of the chocolate batter into the bottom of the prepared pan.
Step 4: Drizzle the 1 cup of caramel sauce evenly over the batter, keeping it away from the edges of the pan.
Step 5: Spoon the remaining chocolate batter over the caramel layer in small dollops.
Step 6: Bake for 30-35 minutes until the center is set. Let cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a salted version, sprinkle flaked sea salt over the caramel before adding the top batter layer.
