Description
A sweet and pillowy twist on classic French toast using iconic Hawaiian sweet rolls.
Ingredients
1 pack (12 rolls) King's Hawaiian Rolls
3 large eggs
3/4 cup half and half or whole milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 pinch salt
4 tablespoons butter (for cooking)
Instructions
Step 1: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, half and half, vanilla, cinnamon, brown sugar, and salt until smooth.
Step 2: Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally if desired, or keep them whole for a pull-apart style.
Step 3: Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat until it begins to sizzle.
Step 4: Quickly dip the rolls into the egg mixture, ensuring all sides are coated but not overly soaked.
Step 5: Place the rolls in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and caramelized.
Step 6: Repeat with remaining rolls and butter, then serve warm with your favorite toppings.
Notes
For the best results, use slightly stale rolls. If they are fresh, toast them in a low oven for 5 minutes before dipping to help them absorb the custard without falling apart.
