Description
Recreate the beloved sweet and savory breakfast sandwich with fluffy, syrup-infused pancakes, eggs, bacon, and melted cheese right in your kitchen.
Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 large egg
2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
1 teaspoon maple syrup (for pancake batter flavor)
4 large eggs
8 slices of bacon or 4 breakfast sausage patties (cooked until crispy/warmed)
4 slices of American cheese
Extra maple syrup (for drizzling and infusing)
Instructions
Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk these dry ingredients together thoroughly.
Step 2: In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, large egg, melted unsalted butter, and the 1 teaspoon of maple syrup until smoothly blended.
Step 3: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spoon or spatula until just combined. A few small lumps are perfectly fine and actually help achieve a fluffier pancake; avoid overmixing.
Step 4: Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease the surface with a small amount of cooking spray or butter.
Step 5: Pour approximately 1/4 cup of pancake batter onto the hot griddle for each pancake. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until you see bubbles forming on the surface. For that authentic McGriddle sweetness, lightly drizzle a tiny bit of maple syrup onto these bubbles just before flipping. Flip the pancakes and cook for another 1-2 minutes until they are golden brown and cooked through. Repeat with the remaining batter.
Step 6: While your pancakes are cooking, prepare your eggs. Scramble the 4 large eggs in a separate skillet until they reach your desired consistency, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook your bacon slices until crispy, or heat your pre-cooked sausage patties.
Step 7: To assemble each sandwich, place one warm pancake on a plate. Layer with a slice of American cheese, followed by two slices of crispy bacon (or one sausage patty), and a generous portion of scrambled egg. Top with another warm pancake.
Step 8: For the full authentic experience, finish your assembled sandwich with an additional drizzle of maple syrup.
Step 9: Serve immediately and indulge in the sweet and savory delight of your homemade McGriddle!
Notes
For best results, ensure your buttermilk and egg are at room temperature. Don't overmix the pancake batter for maximum fluffiness!
