Description
A decadently rich and fudge-like chocolate cake made moist with a signature cocoa soaking sauce.
Ingredients
3 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for sauce)
1/2 cup vegetable oil (for sauce)
1 cup granulated sugar (for sauce)
1.5 cups whole milk (for sauce)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 170–180°C (340–350°F) and grease your baking pan.
Step 2: Whisk eggs and granulated sugar in a large bowl until frothy and well combined.
Step 3: Add the vegetable oil and milk to the egg mixture and whisk briefly to incorporate.
Step 4: Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, and baking powder. Add the vanilla extract and mix with a spatula until smooth.
Step 5: Pour the batter into the greased pan and bake for 30–35 minutes, testing with a toothpick for doneness.
Step 6: While the cake is baking, combine the sauce ingredients (cocoa, oil, sugar, milk) in a saucepan over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
Step 7: Remove the sauce from heat before it boils and set aside 1 cup to soak the cake.
Step 8: Remove the cake from the oven, wait 2–3 minutes, then pour the reserved 1 cup of sauce over the warm cake.
Step 9: Serve with the remaining sauce drizzled over individual slices.
Notes
Ensure the sauce is warm but not boiling when poured over the cake for the best absorption.
