Description
Quickly create warm, gooey caramel apples in a skillet for an irresistible autumn dessert, perfect for sharing.
Ingredients
4 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji), cored and sliced into 1/2-inch wedges
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cup caramel bits or 11 oz bag of caramel squares
2 tablespoons water or milk (if using caramel squares)
Optional: Sea salt, chopped nuts, vanilla ice cream for serving
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the apples. Core and slice the apples into roughly 1/2-inch thick wedges. Set aside.
Step 2: Melt butter. In a large non-stick skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
Step 3: Cook apples. Add the apple slices to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften slightly and turn golden.
Step 4: Add caramel. Reduce heat to low. Add the caramel bits (or squares) to the skillet. If using squares, add 2 tablespoons of water or milk to help them melt.
Step 5: Stir to combine. Stir gently until the caramel is completely melted and coats the apples evenly. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
Step 6: Serve immediately. Remove from heat and serve warm, optionally topped with a sprinkle of sea salt, chopped nuts, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
For the best results, use firm, crisp apples that won't turn mushy when cooked. Granny Smith offers a lovely tart balance to the sweet caramel, while Honeycrisp provides a sweeter profile with great texture. Don't be afraid to experiment with toppings like chocolate drizzle, whipped cream, or cinnamon sugar!
