Description
A delicious and quick mashup of classic pepperoni pizza and a buttery, crispy grilled cheese sandwich.
Ingredients
4 slices of bread (sourdough, white, or whole wheat)
2 tbsp butter (softened)
1/2 cup marinara or pizza sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
12 slices of turkey pepperoni
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
2 tbsp chopped fresh basil (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Mix softened butter with garlic powder and Italian seasoning; spread on one side of each bread slice.
Step 2: Spread marinara on the non-buttered sides of the bread slices.
Step 3: Layer mozzarella, Parmesan, and pepperoni onto two slices, then top with the remaining cheese.
Step 4: Close the sandwiches with the buttered sides facing out.
Step 5: Grill in a skillet over medium-low heat for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and melty.
Step 6: Let rest for one minute, slice, and serve with fresh basil.
Notes
Using low-moisture mozzarella prevents the sandwich from becoming watery. Sourdough bread provides the best structural integrity.
