Description
A rich, moist chocolate cake baked in an outdoor pizza oven for a unique smoky flavor and perfect texture.
Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup melted butter
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup hot water
2 tbsp vanilla extract
1 milk or dark chocolate bar for topping
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your outdoor pizza oven to a floor temperature of approximately 350°F (175°C).
Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar.
Step 3: Add the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract, stirring until just combined.
Step 4: Pour in the hot water and stir gently until the batter is smooth and glossy.
Step 5: Grease a 10-inch cast iron skillet and pour in the chocolate batter.
Step 6: Break the chocolate bar into chunks and press them lightly into the top of the batter.
Step 7: Place the skillet in the front of the pizza oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, rotating every few minutes.
Step 8: Remove when a toothpick comes out clean and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Ensure the pizza oven flame is low to prevent the top from burning before the middle is set.
