Description
A vibrant, tangy, and sweet Thai-inspired dipping sauce perfect for spring rolls and grilled meats.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons tamarind paste
0.75 cup water
2 tablespoons chopped shallots
1 tablespoon chopped green chilies
1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cumin
0.25 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Step 1: Combine the tamarind paste and water in a small bowl, whisking until the paste is completely dissolved and smooth.
Step 2: Stir in the finely chopped shallots, green chilies, and cilantro until evenly distributed.
Step 3: Add the brown sugar and ground cumin, whisking until the sugar has fully dissolved into the liquid.
Step 4: Taste the sauce and add salt or additional sugar if needed to balance the tartness of the tamarind.
Step 5: Let the sauce sit for 10 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
Notes
If the sauce is too thick, add water one teaspoon at a time. If using tamarind concentrate instead of paste, reduce the amount by half as it is much stronger.
