1 lb ground beef
2 large onions, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons butter
4 slices Swiss or Gruyère cheese
4 Brioche buns
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
Step 1: Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat.
Step 2: Add the sliced onions and cook for 35-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until dark brown and caramelized.
Step 3: Form the ground beef into 4 patties and season both sides with salt and pepper.
Step 4: In a hot pan, cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side until they reach your desired level of doneness.
Step 5: Top each patty with a heap of caramelized onions and a slice of cheese, then melt under a lid for 30 seconds.
Step 6: Place patties on toasted buns and serve your French Onion Soup Burgers immediately.
Notes
Use 80/20 ground chuck for the best flavor and juiciness. Do not press down on the patties while cooking.
