Description

A foolproof french toast recipe featuring thick brioche soaked in a rich vanilla-cinnamon custard and cooked until golden and fluffy.

Ingredients

Scale

8 thick slices of Brioche or Challah bread
4 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
Maple syrup and fresh berries for serving

Instructions

Step 1: In a shallow wide bowl or pie dish, whisk the eggs until the yolks and whites are fully combined and no streaks remain.
Step 2: Add the whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt to the eggs. Whisk vigorously until the sugar is dissolved and the cinnamon is distributed.
Step 3: Place a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter, swirling to coat the surface as it melts.
Step 4: Dip two slices of bread into the egg mixture, allowing them to soak for 15-20 seconds per side until saturated but not falling apart.
Step 5: Place the soaked slices into the hot skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes on the first side until deep golden brown and slightly crisp.
Step 6: Flip the slices carefully and cook for another 3-4 minutes on the second side. Repeat with the remaining slices, adding more butter to the pan as needed.
Step 7: Serve the french toast recipe immediately with your favorite toppings like maple syrup, fresh fruit, or powdered sugar.

Notes

For the best results, use bread that is at least one day old. If your bread is fresh, dry it in a 300°F oven for 5 minutes per side before soaking.
