Description

This incredibly easy and delicious fried cabbage with bacon recipe combines tender cabbage with crispy bacon, sweet onions, and aromatic garlic for a flavorful side dish.

Ingredients

Scale

1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
6 slices turkey bacon, chopped
1 medium onion, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat. [IMAGE_PLACEHOLDER_0]
Step 2: Add the chopped turkey bacon to the skillet. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the bacon becomes crispy. Once crispy, remove the bacon from the pan and set it aside. [IMAGE_PLACEHOLDER_1]
Step 3: In the same skillet, add the sliced onion. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions soften and become translucent. [IMAGE_PLACEHOLDER_2]
Step 4: Once the onions are softened, add the minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly, until the garlic becomes fragrant. Be careful not to let it brown. [IMAGE_PLACEHOLDER_3]
Step 5: Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, stirring to combine it with the onions and garlic. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage softens and develops a slightly caramelized, browned color around the edges. [IMAGE_PLACEHOLDER_4]
Step 6: Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste, and add smoked paprika (optional) and red pepper flakes (optional) if desired. Stir well to combine the seasonings.
Step 7: Return the crispy turkey bacon to the skillet. Stir everything together, making sure the bacon gets evenly distributed throughout the cabbage. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt, pepper, or red pepper flakes if desired.
Step 8: Serve hot and enjoy this flavorful side dish! [IMAGE_PLACEHOLDER_5]

Notes

For a richer flavor, use regular pork bacon and cook until extra crispy, then drain most of the fat before adding onions. Feel free to add a splash of apple cider vinegar at the end for a tangy finish, or a pinch of sugar for a slightly sweeter profile.
