Description

A hearty one-pan Southern dish combining smoky bacon, spiced sausage, and succulent shrimp sautéed with tender cabbage. This flavorful meal is quick to prepare and perfect for weeknight dinners or entertaining guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1/2 cup yellow onions, chopped
  • 3 cups cabbage, cut into thin strips
  • 10-12 shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 link kielbasa or smoked sausage, sliced 1/2 inch thick
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp seafood seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Pinch of crushed red pepper (optional)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Season shrimp with olive oil and seafood seasoning; set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook chopped bacon until crispy. Remove bacon and set aside, leaving the grease in the skillet.
  3. Add sliced sausage to the skillet and brown on each side; remove and set aside.
  4. Add shrimp to the skillet and cook approximately 3 minutes per side until pink and opaque; remove and set aside.
  5. Add 1 tbsp butter to the skillet, then add onions, paprika, oregano, salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper. Cook for 5-6 minutes until onions begin to soften. Add garlic and cook until fragrant.
  6. Add 1 tbsp butter and apple cider vinegar to the skillet, stirring to combine. Add cabbage, tossing well to coat.
  7. Cook for approximately 12 minutes until cabbage is tender.
  8. Stir in the cooked bacon, shrimp, and sausage. Mix well and serve hot.

Notes

For added heat, include diced jalapeños or increase the amount of red pepper flakes. To incorporate more vegetables, consider adding bell peppers, carrots, or snap peas. Substitute shrimp with chicken or tofu for a different protein option. Serve over rice or with cornbread for a complete meal.
