Description
A creamy, crunchy, and deeply comforting green bean casserole recipe that uses a few simple tricks to achieve the perfect texture and flavor.
Ingredients
1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed and blanched
1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup whole milk
1 tsp soy sauce
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1 1/3 cups French fried onions, divided
1/4 tsp garlic powder
Pinch of salt to taste
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 2-quart baking dish.
Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, black pepper, and garlic powder until smooth.
Step 3: Fold the blanched green beans and 2/3 cup of the French fried onions into the soup mixture until the beans are well-coated.
Step 4: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly with a spatula.
Step 5: Bake for 25 minutes, or until the sauce is hot and bubbling around the edges.
Step 6: Remove the dish from the oven and sprinkle the remaining 2/3 cup of fried onions evenly over the top.
Step 7: Return the casserole to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown and crisp.
Step 8: Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to set.
Notes
To use frozen green beans, thaw them completely and pat them dry before mixing with the sauce to prevent a watery consistency.
