Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon black food coloring gel
1/2 cup buttermilk
For the filling:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and black food coloring, mixing until smooth.
Step 4: Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, until a thick cookie dough forms.
Step 5: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto baking sheets, leaving space between each.
Step 6: Bake for 10–12 minutes, until cookies are set but still soft in the center. Let cool completely.
Step 7: For the filling: Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla. Tint with orange food coloring until desired shade is reached.
Step 8: Spread or pipe orange cream filling onto the flat side of one cookie, then sandwich with another cookie.
Step 9: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
