Description

A buttery, flaky puff pastry filled with a sweet and tangy cream cheese center, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

1 package (17.25 oz) frozen puff pastry, thawed but cold
8 oz full-fat cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg yolk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp water (egg wash)
Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Step 2: In a medium mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, vanilla, and lemon juice until smooth and creamy.
Step 3: On a lightly floured surface, unfold the puff pastry sheets and cut each sheet into 4 equal squares.
Step 4: Place the squares on the prepared baking sheets. Score a smaller square inside each piece, about 1/2 inch from the edge, being careful not to cut all the way through.
Step 5: Place 1-2 tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each pastry square.
Step 6: Brush the edges of the pastry with the egg wash. This will give your Heavenly Cheese Danish a beautiful golden sheen.
Step 7: Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
Step 8: Allow the danishes to cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Ensure the puff pastry remains cold while working. If it gets too soft, pop it back in the fridge for 10 minutes.
