Description
These homemade churros are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and coated in sweet cinnamon sugar. Paired with a rich chocolate dipping sauce, they're a delightful treat perfect for any occasion.

- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Oil, for frying
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
- 1 cup chocolate chips (for dipping sauce, optional)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (for dipping sauce, optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Remove from heat and stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball. Allow it to cool for a few minutes.
- Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract until the dough is smooth.
- In a deep frying pan, heat about 2 inches of oil to 375°F (190°C).
- Fill a piping bag fitted with a star tip with the churro dough. Carefully pipe strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting them to your desired length.
- Fry the churros for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove them and drain on paper towels.
- In a shallow dish, mix sugar and cinnamon. Roll the hot churros in the mixture until coated.
- For the chocolate sauce, heat heavy cream in a small saucepan until simmering. Pour over chocolate chips in a bowl and let sit for a minute. Stir until smooth.
Notes
For a healthier version, you can make churros in an air fryer. Pipe the dough onto parchment paper, spray with cooking oil, and air fry at 375°F (190°C) for about 10 minutes. You can also fill the churros with dulce de leche, chocolate, or cream cheese frosting after frying for an extra indulgent treat.
