Description

Learn to make incredibly soft and savory homemade garlic knots with this easy-to-follow recipe, perfect as a side or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon instant yeast
3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Salt to taste

Instructions

Step 1: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Add the warm water and olive oil, mixing until a shaggy dough forms. Turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. The beauty of instant yeast is that it eliminates the need for a long first rise!
Step 2: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Divide the kneaded dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long, thin rope, approximately 10-12 inches long. Carefully tie each rope into a knot, tucking the ends underneath for a neat finish. Arrange the knots on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Step 3: Transfer the baking sheet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the knots are beautifully golden brown and cooked through.
Step 4: While your knots are baking, prepare the star of the show: the garlic butter! In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, finely minced garlic, fresh chopped parsley, red pepper flakes (if using for a subtle kick), and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
Step 5: As soon as the garlic knots emerge from the oven, brush them generously with the fragrant garlic butter mixture. The warm knots will soak up all that delicious flavor! Serve immediately, perhaps with an extra sprinkle of fresh parsley.

Notes

For an extra cheesy touch, sprinkle some shredded mozzarella or Parmesan over the knots during the last 5 minutes of baking. These knots are fantastic with warm marinara sauce for dipping!
