Description

A bright and zesty twist on the classic cinnamon roll, featuring a soft yeast dough and a rich, citrus-infused cream cheese icing.


Ingredients

2 cups warm water
4 1/2 teaspoons quick rise yeast (2 packets)
6 tablespoons granulated sugar
6 cups all-purpose flour
5 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup butter, melted (for filling)
1 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
2 tablespoons orange zest (for filling)
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
2 oz cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup softened butter (for icing)
1 teaspoon orange juice
1 tablespoon orange zest (for icing)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon corn syrup
1 1/4 cups powdered sugar


Instructions

Step 1: Combine warm water, yeast, and 6 tbsp sugar in a mixer bowl. Let bloom for 5 minutes.
Step 2: Add 5 tbsp melted butter, salt, and 3 cups of flour. Mix, then add remaining flour until dough is tacky but manageable.
Step 3: Knead for 5-7 minutes. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled.
Step 4: Mix filling ingredients (1 cup sugar, 2 tbsp zest, cinnamon) in a bowl. Melt filling butter.
Step 5: Roll dough into a 12x18 inch rectangle. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle orange sugar.
Step 6: Roll up tightly and cut into 12 rolls using dental floss or a knife.
Step 7: Place in a 9x13 pan, cover, and let rise for 45 minutes.
Step 8: Bake at 375°F for 20-25 minutes until golden.
Step 9: Whisk icing ingredients and spread over slightly cooled rolls.

Notes

Ensure the water is between 105-115°F to properly activate the yeast without killing it.
