Scale
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 packet Kool-Aid (any flavor)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water in a medium saucepan; stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
- Bring mixture to a boil without stirring; insert candy thermometer and cook until it reaches 260°F (hard-ball stage).
- Remove from heat; stir in Kool-Aid powder, butter, vanilla extract, and salt until fully incorporated.
- Pour hot mixture onto a greased baking sheet or silicone mat; let cool about 5 minutes until warm and pliable.
- Butter your hands and stretch and pull the taffy for 10-15 minutes until shiny and firm.
- Roll taffy into a long rope about 1/2 inch thick; cut into bite-sized pieces.
- Wrap each piece in wax paper and allow to cool completely before serving.
Notes
Use a candy thermometer for accuracy. Be careful handling hot syrup. Experiment with different Kool-Aid flavors or food colorings. Store wrapped taffy in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.
