Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 packet Kool-Aid (any flavor)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water in a medium saucepan; stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
  2. Bring mixture to a boil without stirring; insert candy thermometer and cook until it reaches 260°F (hard-ball stage).
  3. Remove from heat; stir in Kool-Aid powder, butter, vanilla extract, and salt until fully incorporated.
  4. Pour hot mixture onto a greased baking sheet or silicone mat; let cool about 5 minutes until warm and pliable.
  5. Butter your hands and stretch and pull the taffy for 10-15 minutes until shiny and firm.
  6. Roll taffy into a long rope about 1/2 inch thick; cut into bite-sized pieces.
  7. Wrap each piece in wax paper and allow to cool completely before serving.

Notes

Use a candy thermometer for accuracy. Be careful handling hot syrup. Experiment with different Kool-Aid flavors or food colorings. Store wrapped taffy in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.
