Description
Adorable and delicious heart-shaped mini calzones with a homemade herb-infused crust and cheesy pepperoni filling.
Ingredients
1 packet active dry yeast
1 cup lukewarm water
2 Tbsp butter, melted
2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp Italian seasoning
2 tsp sugar
3 tbsp olive oil
1/2 cup Pizza Sauce
1 cup Mozzarella Cheese, shredded
1/2 cup Cheddar Cheese, shredded
1/4 cup Pepperoni, finely chopped
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
Step 1: Combine lukewarm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl and wait 10 minutes until frothy.
Step 2: Add melted butter, olive oil, salt, Italian seasoning, and flour; knead for 5 minutes until a smooth dough forms.
Step 3: Let the dough rise in a covered oiled bowl for 45-60 minutes in a warm place.
Step 4: Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness and cut out heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
Step 5: Place half the hearts on a baking sheet and top with sauce, cheeses, and pepperoni.
Step 6: Top with the remaining hearts and crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
Step 7: Brush the tops of the Mini Heart-Shaped Calzones with the beaten egg wash.
Step 8: Bake at 400°F for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
Ensure the pepperoni is finely chopped so it doesn't poke through the dough when sealing the hearts.
