Halloween mummy pigs in a blanket appetizer

Mummy Pigs in a Blanket

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 16 mummies 1x
  • Diet: Standard

Description

A fun and easy Halloween snack where hot dogs are wrapped in strips of crescent dough to resemble adorable mummies, perfect for parties and family meals.

Ingredients

Scale

1 (8-ounce) can refrigerated crescent roll dough
8 hot dogs (standard or cocktail size, cut in half if using standard)
16 candy eyes (or more, if desired)
Ketchup or mustard (for eyes, if not using candy eyes)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
Step 2: Unroll the crescent roll dough on a lightly floured surface. If the dough has perforations for triangles, press them together to seal, forming one large rectangle. If using dough sheets, simply unroll.
Step 3: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into approximately 1/4-inch thick strips.
Step 4: Take one hot dog (or half a hot dog) and wrap a strip of crescent dough around it, starting from one end and working your way to the other, leaving a small gap near the top for the 'face' where the eyes will go. It should look like bandages. Repeat with remaining hot dogs and dough strips. Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 5: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the crescent dough is golden brown and puffed. The baking time may vary slightly depending on your oven and the size of your hot dogs.
Step 6: Once baked, carefully remove the mummies from the oven. While still warm, gently place two candy eyes on each mummy in the space you left for the face. A tiny dab of ketchup or mustard can help them stick if needed. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces!

Notes

For a lighter option, use turkey or chicken hot dogs. If you don't have candy eyes, use small dots of mustard or cream cheese with a tiny piece of olive for the eyes. These are best served warm, but leftovers can be reheated in an oven or air fryer for crispness.
