Description
A delightful homemade ice cream recipe that perfectly captures the nostalgic flavor of an orange creamsicle with fresh, simple ingredients.
Ingredients
2 cups heavy whipping cream, chilled
1 cup whole milk, chilled
1 cup fresh orange juice
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp orange extract
1 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
2-3 drops red food coloring (optional)
2-3 drops yellow food coloring (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream, whole milk, fresh orange juice, granulated sugar, orange extract, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Whisk vigorously until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Step 2: If you desire a classic orange color, add a few drops of red food coloring and yellow food coloring to the mixture. Stir well, adding more drops until you achieve your preferred shade.
Step 3: Pour the prepared mixture into your ice cream maker's frozen bowl and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions. This usually takes about 20-30 minutes, or until the ice cream reaches a soft-serve consistency.
Step 4: Transfer the soft ice cream into an airtight freezer-safe container. Press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the ice cream to prevent ice crystals from forming.
Step 5: Freeze the ice cream for at least 4-6 hours, or until it's firm enough to scoop. Before serving, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly.
Notes
For an even stronger orange flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of fresh orange zest to the mixture before churning. Always ensure your ice cream maker bowl is thoroughly frozen for optimal results.
