Description
A beautiful and easy pear ginger galette recipe featuring seasonal pears, fresh zesty ginger, and a perfectly flaky, buttery crust.
Ingredients
1 prepared pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
3 large Bosc pears, peeled and sliced
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, finely grated
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg (for egg wash)
1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2: In a large bowl, combine the sliced pears, grated ginger, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Toss gently to coat.
Step 3: Roll out your chilled pie dough on a lightly floured surface into a 12-inch circle and transfer it to the prepared baking sheet.
Step 4: Arrange the pear mixture in the center of the dough, leaving about a 2-inch border around the edges.
Step 5: Fold the edges of the dough over the pears, overlapping the folds as you go to create a rustic border.
Step 6: Beat the egg with a teaspoon of water and brush it over the crust edges. Sprinkle the crust and fruit with turbinado sugar.
Step 7: Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the pears are tender and bubbling.
Step 8: Let the galette cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
Always use fresh ginger for the best flavor impact. Bosc pears are the preferred variety for their ability to hold shape.
