Description

A classic, aromatic turkey stuffing recipe made with rustic bread, savory vegetables, and traditional holiday herbs, perfect for your festive feast.

Ingredients

Scale

8 cups rustic bread cubes, day-old
½ cup unsalted butter
1 cup chopped yellow onion
1 cup chopped celery
2 tsp dried sage
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp kosher salt
½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
2 cups chicken broth

Instructions

Step 1: If not already done, tear rustic bread into 1-inch cubes (about 8 cups) and spread them out on a baking sheet. Let them sit uncovered overnight to dry out. This is crucial for preventing soggy stuffing!
Step 2: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large skillet or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat.
Step 3: Add the chopped onion and celery to the skillet. Sauté for 8-10 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened and translucent.
Step 4: Stir in the dried sage, dried thyme, kosher salt, and black pepper. Cook for another minute until fragrant.
Step 5: Transfer the sautéed vegetable mixture to a large mixing bowl. Add the dried bread cubes and pour in the chicken broth. Toss gently until the bread cubes are evenly moistened.
Step 6: Spoon the stuffing mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover with foil.
Step 7: Bake for 25-30 minutes covered, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
Step 8: Remove from the oven and let rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your perfect holiday turkey stuffing!

Notes

For the best texture, always use day-old or dried bread cubes. Using real butter makes a significant difference in flavor. If you want a deeper flavor, consider using homemade chicken broth.
