Description
A lightened-up version of the classic crab rangoon, these bites are packed with protein and baked, not fried, for a healthier appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
6 ounces lump crab meat, drained and finely shredded
4 ounces light cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup plain non-fat Greek yogurt
2 tablespoons finely chopped green onions
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
1/4 teaspoon sriracha (or to taste)
Pinch of garlic powder
Pinch of black pepper
24 square wonton wrappers
Cooking spray or light olive oil
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line with parchment paper.
Step 2: In a medium bowl, combine the drained crab meat, softened light cream cheese, Greek yogurt, green onions, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, sriracha, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix until well combined and creamy.
Step 3: Lay out the wonton wrappers on a clean surface. Place about 1 teaspoon of the crab mixture in the center of each wrapper.
Step 4: Lightly moisten the edges of the wonton wrapper with a little water using your finger. Fold the wrapper over the filling into your desired shape (triangle, purse, or simply pinch the corners together) ensuring the edges are sealed to prevent filling from escaping.
Step 5: Arrange the assembled crab rangoon bites in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly spray the tops of the bites with cooking spray or brush with a very thin layer of olive oil for extra crispiness.
Step 6: Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the wonton wrappers are golden brown and crispy. Keep a close eye on them, as they can burn quickly.
Step 7: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm with your favorite sweet chili sauce or a homemade dipping sauce.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can use full-fat cream cheese, though it will slightly increase the calorie and fat content. Experiment with different dipping sauces like a soy-ginger sauce or a tangy plum sauce.
