Description
A fast-tracked version of the classic Cantonese BBQ chicken using a rich, sticky hoisin and honey glaze.
Ingredients
1.5 lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)
Sliced scallions and sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: Trim the chicken thighs and pat them dry with a paper towel to ensure the marinade sticks.
Step 2: In a medium bowl, combine the hoisin, soy sauce, honey, oyster sauce, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil.
Step 3: Toss the chicken in the marinade until well coated. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes if possible.
Step 4: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken thighs in a single layer.
Step 5: Cook for about 5-6 minutes per side. Brush with any remaining marinade in the last few minutes of cooking until the chicken is glazed and charred.
Step 6: Ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F. Remove from heat and rest for 5 minutes.
Step 7: Slice into strips and garnish with scallions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
For an even deeper color, add a teaspoon of beet juice or a drop of red food coloring to the marinade. Always rest the meat before slicing to keep it juicy.
