Description
Soft and chewy red velvet cookies rolled in festive sugar and topped with a decadent chocolate heart.
Ingredients
36 Dove Chocolate Hearts (1 package)
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 tablespoon milk
1 tablespoon red food coloring
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
red sprinkling sugar and/or sprinkles for rolling
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line cookie sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and 1 cup of sugar until light and fluffy.
Step 3: Add the egg, milk, red food coloring, and vanilla; mix well until the color is uniform.
Step 4: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
Step 5: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, beating until well combined.
Step 6: Shape the dough into 1-inch balls. Roll each ball in the sprinkling sugar or sprinkles until coated.
Step 7: Place the balls 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
Step 8: Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges are just set. Do not overbake.
Step 9: Remove from the oven and let cool for 2-3 minutes. Press one chocolate heart into the center of each cookie.
Step 10: Cool completely on a wire rack until the chocolate is firm.
Notes
Ensure your butter is truly room temperature for the best texture. If dough is too soft, chill for 15 minutes.
