Description

Ingredients

2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 tablespoon salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
5 1/2 to 6 cups bread flour


Instructions

Step 1: Dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water; let stand for 10 minutes until foamy.
Step 2: Stir in salt, oil, and 2 cups of flour until smooth.
Step 3: Add remaining flour gradually to form a soft dough that cleans the bowl.
Step 4: Knead for 8-10 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
Step 5: Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled (about 1 hour).
Step 6: Punch down dough, divide in half, and shape into two long loaves.
Step 7: Place on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 45 minutes.
Step 8: Slash the tops with a sharp knife and bake at 375°F for 25-30 minutes until golden.
Step 9: Cool completely on a wire rack before slicing for the best texture.
