Description
A comforting, fruit-forward dessert featuring tender pears, tart cranberries, and a warm blend of cinnamon and ginger topped with a crunchy oat crumble.
Ingredients
6 large Bosc or Anjou pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
1.5 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
Step 2: In a large bowl, toss together the sliced pears, cranberries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves until the fruit is evenly coated.
Step 3: Spread the fruit mixture into the prepared baking dish in an even layer.
Step 4: In another bowl, whisk together the oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and pecans.
Step 5: Add the cold cubed butter to the oat mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter in until the mixture forms clumps the size of peas.
Step 6: Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the spiced cranberry pear crisp fruit filling.
Step 7: Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the juices are bubbling and the topping is golden brown. Let cool for 15 minutes before serving.
Notes
For the best results, use Bosc pears as they maintain their structure better than Bartlett pears during baking.
