Description
A creamy, cheesy, and savory spinach dip disguised as a hauntingly fun graveyard scene, perfect for Halloween parties and spooky gatherings.
Ingredients
1 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and thoroughly squeezed dry
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a cheddar-mozzarella blend)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
Assorted rectangular crackers (e.g., Wheat Thins, Triscuits) for gravestones
Black olives, halved, for spiders (optional)
Fresh dill or parsley, finely chopped, for grass (optional)
Food-safe marker or black icing for gravestone writing (optional)
Additional crackers, pita chips, or baguette slices for serving
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, and seasoned salt. Mix thoroughly until smooth and well combined.
Step 3: Add the thawed and thoroughly squeezed dry spinach to the cream cheese mixture. Fold gently until the spinach is evenly distributed throughout the dip.
Step 4: Transfer the spinach dip mixture into a small oven-safe baking dish (an 8x8 inch square dish or a round pie plate works well).
Step 5: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is hot, bubbly, and the edges are slightly golden brown.
Step 6: Carefully remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for about 5-10 minutes. This allows it to set slightly before decorating.
Step 7: Begin decorating your graveyard scene. Gently insert rectangular crackers upright into the warm dip to create gravestones. Use a food-safe marker or a thin line of black icing to write 'RIP' or spooky initials on the crackers.
Step 8: If desired, arrange halved black olives on the dip to create 'spiders.' Sprinkle finely chopped fresh dill or parsley around the gravestones to mimic 'grass.'
Step 9: Serve immediately with additional crackers, toasted baguette slices, or fresh vegetable sticks for dipping.
Notes
For extra depth of flavor, you can add a pinch of onion powder or a dash of hot sauce to the dip mixture. Ensure spinach is very dry to prevent a watery dip.
