Description
A fun and easy treat combining crisp apples with a creamy white chocolate coating and buttery crushed shortbread cookies, mimicking the flavors of strawberry shortcake.
Ingredients
4 medium apples, washed and dried
1 cup white chocolate chips or candy melts
1/2 cup crushed shortbread cookies
4 wooden candy apple sticks
Instructions
Step 1: Thoroughly wash and dry your apples. Remove any stems. Insert a wooden candy apple stick firmly into the core of each apple through the stem end. Set aside.
Step 2: Place the white chocolate chips or candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until the chocolate is smooth and completely melted. Alternatively, melt over a double boiler.
Step 3: Pour the crushed shortbread cookies into a shallow bowl or plate. This will make coating easier.
Step 4: Holding an apple by the stick, dip it into the melted white chocolate, rotating to ensure it's fully coated. Let any excess chocolate drip off. You may need to tilt the bowl to get full coverage.
Step 5: Immediately roll the chocolate-coated apple in the crushed shortbread cookies, gently pressing the crumbs onto the chocolate until evenly covered.
Step 6: Place the finished apple upright on a piece of parchment paper or a silicone mat. Repeat with the remaining apples. Allow the chocolate to set completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator for about 15-20 minutes.
Notes
Ensure apples are very dry for the best chocolate adhesion. For extra strawberry flavor, you can mix a teaspoon of freeze-dried strawberry powder into the crushed shortbread cookies.
