Description
A thick, luscious, and intensely fruity strawberry syrup recipe made with just three simple ingredients. Perfect for drinks, desserts, and breakfast favorites.
Ingredients
1 pound (450g) fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled and sliced
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
Optional: 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Step 1: In a medium saucepan, combine the sliced strawberries, sugar, and water over medium heat.
Step 2: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally to ensure the sugar dissolves completely.
Step 3: Let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the strawberries are very soft and the liquid has thickened slightly.
Step 4: Use a potato masher or a fork to crush the strawberries directly in the pot to release all their juices.
Step 5: Remove from heat and stir in the lemon juice (and vanilla if using).
Step 6: Place a fine-mesh strainer over a bowl and pour the mixture through. Press gently on the solids to extract the liquid without pushing pulp through if you want a clear syrup.
Step 7: Allow the strawberry syrup recipe to cool to room temperature before transferring it to a glass jar for refrigeration.
Notes
If the syrup is too thick after cooling, whisk in a teaspoon of warm water at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
