Description
A fun and festive deconstructed candy apple treat, perfect for parties, featuring layers of spiced apple cider, rich caramel, and a creamy, sweet topping.
Ingredients
1 cup apple cider (or apple juice for non-alcoholic)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (plus extra for garnish)
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup heavy whipping cream
Optional: 1/4 cup caramel vodka or apple schnapps
1 small Granny Smith apple, for garnish
Lemon juice (for apple garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the spiced apple base. In a small saucepan, gently warm the apple cider (if using alcohol, add it now) with cinnamon and nutmeg over medium-low heat for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool completely.
Step 2: Make the cream cheese topping. In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
Step 3: Whip the heavy cream in a separate bowl until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until just combined and airy.
Step 4: Assemble the shots. Pour about 1.5-2 tablespoons of the cooled spiced apple cider mixture into the bottom of each shot glass.
Step 5: Drizzle about 1 tablespoon of caramel sauce over the apple cider layer in each glass. For best results, chill briefly (10-15 minutes) if your caramel is very thin to help it set.
Step 6: Carefully spoon or pipe the cream cheese topping over the caramel layer. A piping bag with a star tip can create a beautiful presentation.
Step 7: Chill the assembled shots for at least 1-2 hours to allow all the layers to set and flavors to meld.
Step 8: Just before serving, thinly slice the Granny Smith apple and dip the slices in a little lemon juice to prevent browning. Garnish each shot with an apple slice and a light sprinkle of cinnamon.
Notes
For a stronger apple flavor, you can reduce the apple cider by simmering it gently for 5-7 minutes before cooling. Ensure all liquid components are fully cooled before layering to prevent them from blending into each other. For piping the cream cheese topping, ensure it's firm but still smooth.
