Vanilla French Beignets

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 12-15 beignets 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Fluffy, vanilla-infused fried dough squares, lightly dusted with powdered sugar, offering a delightful taste of New Orleans.

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup powdered sugar (for topping)
1/4 cup chopped nuts (such as almonds or walnuts, for topping, optional)
Fresh berries (for garnish, optional)
Mint leaves (for garnish, optional)
Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut)

Instructions

Step 1: In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk until well combined.
Step 2: In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the softened unsalted butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Step 3: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix. The batter may be slightly lumpy.
Step 4: Heat about 2-3 inches of oil in a deep fryer or large heavy-bottomed skillet to 375°F (190°C).
Step 5: Carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes, flipping once, until golden brown and puffed on all sides.
Step 6: Using a slotted spoon, remove the beignets from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Step 7: While the beignets are still warm, transfer them to a bowl or plate and generously roll or dust them with powdered sugar.
Step 8: Garnish with chopped nuts, fresh berries, and mint leaves if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade Vanilla French Beignets!

Notes

For the best flavor and texture, ensure your frying oil is at the correct temperature (375°F / 190°C). Avoid overcrowding the fryer to keep the oil temperature consistent. Serve these beignets immediately while they are still warm and fresh from the fryer for the ultimate experience.
