Description

An incredibly easy and flavorful recipe for baked salmon, drenched in a rich, tangy lemon butter sauce. Perfect for a quick weeknight meal or an elegant dinner party.

Ingredients

Scale

4 (6 oz / 170g) salmon fillets, skin on or off
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
Pinch of paprika (optional)
1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh lemon zest (from 1-2 lemons)
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (from 1-2 lemons)
2 tablespoons fresh dill or parsley, chopped, plus more for garnish
Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
Step 2: Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt, black pepper, and paprika (if using). Place the seasoned salmon, skin-side down (if applicable), on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 3: In a small microwave-safe bowl or a saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, stir in the minced garlic and fresh lemon zest. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, then remove from heat. Stir in the fresh lemon juice and chopped fresh dill or parsley.
Step 4: Pour the lemon butter sauce evenly over each salmon fillet, ensuring they are well coated. You can also place thin lemon slices on top of each fillet for extra flavor and presentation.
Step 5: Bake for 12-18 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. The exact baking time will depend on the thickness of your fillets. An instant-read thermometer should register 145°F (63°C) at the thickest part.
Step 6: If you desire a slightly crispy top, you can briefly broil the salmon for 1-2 minutes during the last stage of cooking. Keep a close eye on it to prevent burning.
Step 7: Remove the baked salmon with lemon butter sauce from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with additional fresh dill or parsley and extra lemon wedges. Drizzle any remaining lemon butter sauce from the pan over the salmon.

Notes

For best results, use fresh, high-quality salmon fillets. Adjust baking time based on the thickness of your salmon to prevent overcooking, which can lead to dry fish. A light sprinkle of red pepper flakes can add a subtle kick to the sauce.
