Description

A delicious, hydrating, and protein-packed bariatric gelatin recipe, perfect for post-surgery dietary needs or anyone looking for a healthy, low-sugar treat. Easy to customize with your favorite sugar-free flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

2 packets (0.25 oz each) unflavored gelatin powder
1 cup cold water (for blooming gelatin)
1 cup boiling water
1 packet (0.3 oz) sugar-free flavored gelatin (e.g., cherry, lime, orange)
1/2 cup cold water (for protein powder)
1 scoop (approx. 25-30g) unflavored whey protein isolate or casein protein powder

Instructions

Step 1: In a medium-sized heatproof bowl, sprinkle the unflavored gelatin powder over 1 cup of cold water. Let it sit for 5 minutes to 'bloom' and absorb the water.
Step 2: While the unflavored gelatin blooms, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Once boiling, remove from heat and immediately pour over the bloomed gelatin mixture. Stir continuously until the gelatin is completely dissolved and the mixture is clear.
Step 3: Add the sugar-free flavored gelatin powder to the hot dissolved gelatin mixture. Stir well for 2-3 minutes until the flavored gelatin powder is fully incorporated and dissolved.
Step 4: In a separate small bowl, whisk the unflavored protein powder with 1/2 cup of cold water until smooth and lump-free. Gradually whisk this protein slurry into the warm gelatin mixture until thoroughly combined.
Step 5: Carefully pour the gelatin mixture into 6 individual serving dishes, ramekins, or small glass containers. For best results with portion control, aim for about 4-5 ounces per serving.
Step 6: Place the containers in the refrigerator and chill for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, until the gelatin is completely set and firm. Serve cold.

Notes

Ensure all liquids are sugar-free and protein powder is unflavored or complements the gelatin flavor. Always consult your surgeon or dietitian before introducing new foods after bariatric surgery, especially in early post-op stages. Adjust protein powder amount based on individual needs and tolerance.
