Description
A chewy, festive, and incredibly easy-to-make bar that captures the classic flavors of fruitcake in a modern, gooey format.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
1 cup mixed dried or candied fruit
1/2 cup shredded coconut
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
Step 2: In a medium bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs and melted butter. Stir until the crumbs are well-coated.
Step 3: Press the crumb mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form a solid crust.
Step 4: Sprinkle the chopped nuts evenly over the crust, followed by the mixed dried fruit and finally the shredded coconut.
Step 5: Pour the entire can of sweetened condensed milk evenly over the layered ingredients, making sure to cover as much area as possible.
Step 6: Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the coconut is lightly toasted.
Step 7: Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Refrigerate for 1 hour for cleaner slicing before cutting into squares.
Notes
For best results, use a heavy-bottomed pan and high-quality candied fruit. Ensure the bars are chilled before slicing to get perfect squares.
