Description
This simple and quick hot honey sauce recipe combines sweet honey with a spicy kick from red pepper flakes and a tangy finish from apple cider vinegar, making it a versatile condiment for everything from fried chicken to pizza.
Ingredients
1 cup (240ml) honey (good quality recommended)
1-2 tablespoons red pepper flakes (adjust to desired heat)
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Instructions
Step 1: Combine the honey and red pepper flakes in a small saucepan. Place over medium-low heat.
Step 2: Gently warm the mixture, stirring occasionally, until the honey is fluid and the flakes have infused their flavor, about 5-7 minutes. Do not boil vigorously.
Step 3: Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the apple cider vinegar. The sauce will thin slightly.
Step 4: Allow the hot honey sauce to cool completely at room temperature. This helps the flavors meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
Step 5: If desired, strain the sauce through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the red pepper flakes for a smoother consistency. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can let the red pepper flakes steep in the warm honey for an additional 10-15 minutes before adding the vinegar. Adjust red pepper flakes to your preferred level of spice. Store in a cool, dark place. This easy hot honey sauce recipe is incredibly versatile!
