Description
An invigorating and surprisingly delicious beverage that combines the bold bitterness of espresso with the crisp, effervescent notes of tonic water, perfect for a sophisticated pick-me-up.
Ingredients
1.5 - 2 oz (45-60ml) freshly brewed espresso, cooled
4-6 oz (120-180ml) premium tonic water, chilled
Plenty of ice
Garnish: lemon or orange slice/peel, or a sprig of rosemary/mint (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Brew 1.5 to 2 ounces of strong espresso. Allow the espresso to cool completely, either at room temperature or by placing it in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes.
Step 2: Fill a tall glass generously with ice cubes. Larger ice cubes are preferred as they melt slower, preventing dilution of your Espresso Tonic.
Step 3: Pour 4 to 6 ounces of chilled premium tonic water over the ice in the glass. Adjust the amount of tonic based on your personal preference and glass size.
Step 4: Slowly and gently pour the cooled espresso over the back of a spoon, allowing it to layer on top of the tonic water. This creates an attractive visual effect.
Step 5: Garnish your Espresso Tonic with a fresh lemon or orange slice/peel, or a sprig of rosemary or mint for added aroma and flavor.
Step 6: Serve immediately. Give the drink a gentle stir before consuming to blend the flavors of the Espresso Tonic perfectly.
Notes
For the best flavor, use high-quality espresso beans and a premium tonic water. Chilling your glass beforehand can enhance the refreshing experience. Experiment with different garnishes like cucumber slices or a dash of bitters to find your perfect combination.
