Description
A luxuriously simple 5-ingredient dessert featuring layers of sweet pineapple and a rich, buttery cake crust.
Ingredients
1 can (20 oz) crushed pineapple in heavy syrup (do not drain)
1 can (20 oz) pineapple tidbits in juice (do not drain)
1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter, thinly sliced
1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Step 2: Spread the crushed pineapple and its syrup evenly across the bottom of the baking dish.
Step 3: Pour the pineapple tidbits and their juice over the crushed pineapple layer.
Step 4: Evenly sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix over the pineapple layer, ensuring no large clumps remain.
Step 5: Arrange the thin slices of butter in a single layer over the cake mix, covering as much surface area as possible.
Step 6: Sprinkle chopped pecans over the top if desired. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden and bubbling.
Step 7: Let the cake rest for 15 minutes before serving to allow it to set into its signature gooey texture.
Notes
Ensure you do not drain the canned pineapple, as the liquid is necessary to bake the cake mix. Use high-quality salted butter for the best flavor.
